This page is adapted from the Unnote privacy policy effective March 6, 2026.

2. Data we process
Notes and note metadata are stored locally on your device, including note IDs, timestamps, cursor position, deleted status, and related settings files under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Unnote\.
App settings such as UI preferences, shortcuts, startup behavior, and window placement are also stored locally.
If you use OCR features, image data is processed locally on your device using the bundled Tesseract engine.
When automatic error reporting is enabled, technical diagnostics such as stack traces and environment metadata may be sent to Sentry.
When license status is checked, Unnote communicates with Microsoft Store licensing services to verify app license state.
3. How we use data
We use data to operate and improve core product functionality.
- Save and restore your notes and preferences
- Provide note editing, OCR, import/export, recycle bin, and shortcut features
- Diagnose app stability issues when crash reporting is enabled
- Verify Microsoft Store license state when requested
4. Data sharing
We do not sell personal data. We share data only with providers needed for specific features.
- Sentry for optional crash and error diagnostics
- Microsoft Store licensing services for license verification
5. Data retention
- Notes and settings remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app
- Recycle Bin entries are automatically purged after approximately 7 days
- Crash and error reports sent to Sentry follow Sentry retention policies and project configuration
6. Security
Unnote stores data locally and uses atomic file writes to reduce corruption risk. However, no system is 100% secure, and Unnote does not currently provide built-in encryption for local note files.
7. Your choices
You can control several privacy-related behaviors directly in the app.
- Disable automatic crash and error reporting
- Delete individual notes, clear all notes, or reset app settings
- Export notes and settings and remove local app data
- Control startup behavior and other preferences from settings
8. Children’s privacy
Unnote is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Third-party services
Third-party services used by Unnote may have their own privacy policies, including Sentry and the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
- Sentry: https://sentry.io/privacy/
- Microsoft: https://privacy.microsoft.com/
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When updated, the effective date at the top of the policy will change.
